Northeast United Developmental Program

The NEU Developmental Program provides two options that provide more extensive training for U9, U10 and U11 soccer players in Northeast Portland: the Development Academy and Development Teams. The program is designed to focus on individual skill development and team tactics in a fun and flexible environment. The training can be a great supplement to a player's recreational soccer activity. A player can participate in the Academy alone or the Academy and Development Team (see below) together.

All NEU Development Program participants may participate in recreational leagues with a PYSA sanctioned club but they are not required to do so. If a player participates in both a recreational league and the NEU Development Program, the participant should honor their recreational soccer practice and game schedules and attend NEU Development Program opportunities as time and schedules permit.

The Development Academy- The Development Academy is open to U9, U10 and U11 players. U8 players may not participate except with the approval of the Club President in consultation with the NEU Head Coach. The Academy consists of flexible drop-in weekly sessions most of the year with skill based instruction by NEU coaches.

Development Teams- The focus of the Development Teams is the U10 player. U9 players may participate if the request is initiated by the parent, the player has interest and motivation, and there is approval by the Development Team Coach and the NEU Head Coach. U10 NEU Development Teams play in local tournaments and leagues throughout the year. Development Teams will be formed three times during the year at the beginning of each season from interested U10 Academy players.

While participation on a Development Team is open to all U10 players (space may be limited and there is a selection process), players who participate on a Development Team are expected to be motivated to increase their level of soccer training and game play. Team Coaches will have final determination as to player readiness to participate on a Development Team.

Team Practice: Teams will practice approximately once a week and in addition players should continue to participate in the weekly Academy sessions. (There will not be any practices during the winter.)

NEU Development Team Seasons:
Summer (during June, July, August) - Teams will be formed in early June for participation in a minimum of two and up to 4 summer tournaments. Rosters for Summer teams may carry extra players and may differ between tournaments.

Fall (during September, October and November) - Teams will be reformed for participation in a local Fall Developmental League. Teams will practice once a week during September, October and November.

Spring (during February, March and April)-Teams will be reformed in the winter for
participation in a local developmental league.
