What does it take to be a coach?

Philosophy: As stated in our NEU mission statement, our club seeks to provide the highest quality soccer experience for all our kids. This begins with adults who have a desire to teach, model good sportsmanship, and demonstrate sound character.

Recreational Coaches are all volunteer coaches. NEU does not require its recreational coaches to be licensed for coaching but does strongly encourage participation in coach training to stay up to date on new drills, teaching technical skills and safety issues. For those coaching U9 and above an E license is highly encouraged.

Registration:

To register to be a recreational coach for NEU, register through the member login button as you would register your soccer playing child. There is no fee to be a coach, you are a volunteer to the NEU organization. You will need to clear a background check to be eligible to coach a team.

Coaching Clinics:

The Oregon Youth Soccer Association and Portland Youth Soccer Association both offer coaching clinics througout the year. Please check their websites to see if one fits your schedule.
